F12 transmission codes

I was told that there are five or so different codes for different gear ratios in transmission. F-standard gears, K, X, L, M. L&M are the high speed ratios. Is there any validitity to this?. The letter is stamped on the flat boss which mounts the PTO cover,as you view the tractor from the rear, it is in between the edge of the flat and the left bolt hole. I have 1 trans with an "F", and 1 trans with an "M"-Thanks for any insight-Chuck-
