Farmall H Trans Input and belly pump drive seals

I am restoring a 1940 Farmall H and I am ready to replace the transmission input shaft seal which doesn't look like a big deal but just below it is the belly pump drive seal and I am concerned that when attempting to remove the seal that that end of the trans counter shaft is going to drop and I'll have to take the upper trans cover off to get it back together. Has any out there done one of these belly pump drive seals in the front of the transmission housing and could avdise me on what it is like? I hope it is not like changing the seal on the belly pump itself because that was a work out in itself. Thank you
