Glad you got lucky but really not that big a deal to pop the top and get it back down on there.
Select a gear on the top to position the forks. Move the gears into that position manually.
Put the top down straight on and get each fork in a groove. Done. 5 or 6 tries you're done.
Place two bolts and test it. What's the big deal.
