I have had the cover off my H on several occasions for various reasons. I work on my own so have to use a chain hoist to lift it clear of the tranny. To maintain control of it until the forks are clear of the gears I use two guide pins placed diagonally opposite each other. In the case of the H they are made from 7/16" diam. bar about 8" long with 1/2" of thread on one end and screwed into the bolt holes in the transmission housing. Also makes the job easier when lowering the cover back into place and getting the forks lined up with the gears.
