One other possibility is the difficulty of painting all the irregular surfaces of cast. It is easy to "double coat" or make a partial pass on an ares you just painted. When you do this, you are painting over a previous coat that has not yet "flashed". This can cause dieback, or dulling of the surface. I am often tempted to make a second pass on something I did not get quite covered -- not a good idea.
