Lee: The 244 tractor appears in the 1983 buyers guide. My first reaction was the same as CNKS, and that one just shows our age. Three compact tractors listed for 1983 were 234, 244 and 254. Features include; 3 cylinder diesel engines, live hydraulics,catergory I 3 point hitch,hand and foot throttles,tach and hour meters, live pto, a special 1250 rpm pto for rotary mowers. The 244 has 59.74 cu in liquid cooled diesel 9 speeds forward and 3 reverse. These tractors were just smaller brothers of the 274 offset and 284 tractor. They were all 3 cylinder Asian diesels that turned out, not to be one of IH's better efforts. Two guys I know bought these new, and today they are using Super A for that intended work.
