THE HYDRO TRACTORS ARE FANTASTIC TRACTORS!!!
when working properly, you can kill the engine by pressing on the brake pedals. it will give back pressure when going down hill, or "gearing back" to slow down. they are every bit as solid as a mechanical drive.
don't waste your time working on it yourself, take it to a shop with someone who has worked on hydros before. they'll do pressure tests to make sure which section is the problem. many problems will be able to be fixed without breaking tractor in half.
mine is actually stil in the shop, but mine didn't have a bad hydro, just some bad (and some wrong parts) seals inside which lowered the hydro pressures, and i could not spin the wheels.
always use IH hydro oil for the trany. some off brand oils WILL destroy some of the seals inside the trany.
use low range whenever possible, it improves oil flow inside the hydro, therefore better for the hydro unit.
keep the oil clean!!! and change it when it is time to be changed!!!!
if properly maintained, they will last MANY MANY YEARS.
