I installed an inline gas filter and had nothing but grief with gas flow. I found out that some inline filters won't work in a gravity condition, they need the pump to provide some vacuum.

Bottom line, just use the standard sediment bowl, and like the guy said, stick a magnet in the tank.

It helps to have the cylinder shaped screen protruding up from where the sediment bowl enters the tank.

This may all sound stupid, but it took me a couple of weeks to figure out my fuel problem.
