Cub gears have square-cut teeth. They are naturally a little noisier than some. What you are describing is noise from the final drives or sometimes called the drop axles. If the gears are bad, it is an easy fix.
I don't know about a tow bar, but if you have help, you could easily tow the cub with another tractor using a chain. If you have some distance to go, they trailer real easy. Even a single axle trailer would work for a short distance. The cub, with loaded tires and wheel weights would only run around 2000 lbs.
