If everything is original, there will be a hole in the left rear of your hood for the filler neck for the gasoline starter tank (distillate/kerosene tractors start on gas then switch to distillate/kerosene when warm). I have seen distillate carbs on original tractors without the distillate tank. The main jet adustment on a distillate carb is as you have described. The needle in front is the idle mixture.
