Oil filter o-ring: wrong one, or operator error?

Howdy, all.
I could have sworn I posted this already, but I can't find it now. When I changed the oil filter in my Super A I also replaced the o-ring with the one provided with the cartridge. I did a thorough job of cleaning out the old o-ring residue out of the groove. However, it seems to seep oil when the tractor is running. Did I install it wrong, over-tighten, or do these always seep a little?? (The groove is triangular, whereas the o-ring is square in cross-section... is that right??) Thanks again,
