It refers to the sheetmetal that was added mostly as decoration, although the hood and gas tank were both decorative and useful. Here is a shot of an F20 and an H side by side to compare. The F20 would be refered to as unstyled, and the H as styled, although this term is usually used on john deeres, since they changed to a styled tractor without changing the model names, and farmall changed from the F and number designation to letters when they styled the tractors.
