I've done this for years. The broken stub will
usually come right out with a couple of light
taps.
Another tip would be to start the engine and turn
the auger shaft until the bolt hole is at an angle
that is easy to work on. Use low throttle and
"bump" the auger clutch until it's where you want
it.

Up till then, this tractor had been running a corn grinder and pulling a trailer. It had new unfilled rear tires and no wheel weights.
