MW Pump on a 48 M

I'm going through my "new" M. It's got an M&W pump behind the distributor. Hoses go to the belly pump only. I have no idea what they were using it for. I would like to be able to use it for a three point and/or remote. What oil would I use for this setup? 30W none detergent like the belly pump uses or hydraulic oil. I've read that you can remove the belly pump and use the reservoir for the M&W. How can I tell if the belly pump is still installed. The lever is there and it looks like it's there from underneath, but I don't know.
