Shimming a lift all pump

The lift all pump in my H puts out 800psi pressure at idle my manual says 800psi is the propper preasure for the lift all pump but it is insuffiecent to run serveral implements that i have (wood splitter needs about 1200psi) I plan on removing the pump and machining up some shims for the preasure relefe/kickoff valve. Has anyone ever done this?? I dont see any problem in doing this, please post your thoughts.
