I'm not sure whether you are talking about small square bales or round bales, I assume you are talking about the small bales. We've used a 504, and 666 gas on our MF 10 baler. 666 works great. Could pull a wagon with 250+ bales on it, and this in in some pretty steep hills. Also worked great on a Vermeer C round baler. We also use a NH 9' haybine. 666 works great, and they are fairly reasonable. Just traded ours in for a combine, and I think they are asking around 5 grand for it. The paint was bad, but the tin was straight. We recently started using a 756 diesel on the baler, and found it an advantage because of more gears. Didn't need the extra size or power, but the gears make a lot less use of the clutch. It all depends on whatelse you plan on using the tractor for, and personal preferance.
