If you go -12 volt the only thing you have to do is use a momentary toggle switch to the F (field)terminal on the alternator from the battery to excite the field.Once that you have done that you don't need any voltage on the terminal as the alternator creats its own once its charging. The mag doesn't care if you even have a battery as long as it turns.
