I looked at the parts book formy smta which should be sililar to yours. It doesn't show an o ring on the tube from the floating pickup to the pump. Does the O ring make the tube too tight agains the pump housing. It should move up and down freely. While you are there you will want to check the pump for wear inside and for clearance between the gears and cover.
