I hope you used Autolite or AC spark plugs. We had a 300U in the late 1950s and it did not like the brand that started with CH. It would miss and sputter and foul the plugs. Just my 2 cents worth. I don't want to discredit the CH spark plug company as they were excellent for many applications but were just not compatable with the 300U engine.
