My first job upon graduating from High School was working for a man named Curtis Pitts (Pitts Special) fabricating components for aerobatic airplanes. The airframe and all parts were generously painted with zinc chromate. He also had a fleet of crop dusters built in the 1930's that were painted the same. I never knew one to have rust spots once the green coat was applied. Believe me, if Zinc cromate were still available, I would have used it as a primer for my tractor last winter.
