Grew up on H's. We farmed 880 acres of row crops with 4 of them during the 1950's and early '60's. One of the two we used the most had 11-38's (now 12.4's) & the other one 10-38's (now 11.2's) from the factory. Later put on 12-38's (now 13.6 size) on both-I wouldn't go any bigger than that, as the both 11's & 12's were about the best in putting all the torque to the ground that the H's were able to produce. Neighbor had a Super H that he put a set of 13-38's on that he took off his M when he went to 14's on it-our H (w/a 2 year old set of 12's) that had a gas head and oversized pistons in it could out pull his Super H in tough going. He'd have to go to 2nd pulling 2-16 plow & we could pull right through the same hard pan in 3rd. We were pulling a Case plow, he had an IH & Case plows pulled harder than IH's did. (He claimed his IH pulled harder until we switched plows & then he didn't argue any more.) Neither tractor had traction problems, his Super H simply wasn't geared right to use the bigger tires, we all felt. That Super H always looked like it was going down hill with those 13's on it. IMHO, I would go with the 12.4's. (My $0.02 worth. jal-SD)

Talk of the Town: The Saga of Grandpa's Tractor - by The following saga is from the Tractor Talk Discussion Forum. Someone. The saga starts with the following message: Hey guys I have a decision to make. I know what you all will probably suggest and it will probably agree with me way down inside, but here it is. I have a picture blown up and framed in my "tractor room" of a Farmall M. It was my Grandpa's tractor, of which whom I never got to meet. He froze to death getting this tractor out of the barn to pull a truck out of the ditch before I was born. Anyway my dad and aunt had to sell it at the auction,
