You may try asking same question on the Yahoo Group for 154's. The yellow and white ones are the older models. They first started production in the late 1960's, not sure of exact years. There were actually two yellow and white models, the original 154 and then later the model was changed to 185 when upgrades to the engine were made to produce more horsepower. Somewhere around the late 70's, early 80's they begin showing up as red, and the model changed to 184 with a few more changes and improvements.

I have a 1969 154 with 5 foot belly mower and it works really good. In my opinion, the bad points are it is slow if you have a lot to mow, the PTO is not standard and, parts are getting pricey. But, overall, I am impressed with mine every time I use it. I never have used a 185 or a 184. It appears to me that the 184 seems to have some of the bugs worked out that were in the earlier 154.
