I have a I-544 with 4000+ hrs. It is a gas 4 cyclider model. It does not have replaceable sleaves so it is not easaly rebuildable. I know it could be rebuild, but the block would have to be drilled out and oversized piston put in (if available). Anyways, as this is not simple matter of replacing sleaves and standard pistons, I feel these engines typically are not rebuilt. When they go, mostly the tractors are parted out. My question is, under normal useage, what is the life expectancy of these engines? Correct me if I am totally wrong on my formula, but I would say for an automoble engin an adverage speed of 40 miles an hr is a good estimate. Taking 40 miles/hr * 4000 hrs = 160000. For a gas automoble engin, this is getting up there. Is my engin approching end of life?
