Thanks for checking. I have since taken my cam to Berry Cams in Lester Prairie and talked to Scott there. He said that there are actually 3 cams that were used in H motors. The most common (90%) is casting number 43962DB which is known as the low lift cam. It has .207 lift. The other two are 43962DC at .240 and 45956D which had .270. He said that the high lift cams were very rare.

You are right that the cams should be measured on V blocks or between centers, but I just miked mine. The duration, measured on the cam, is between 116 and 108 degrees, so the error with such little lift is only a few thousandths at most.

It sounds like you might need a new cam or to have yours reground. Berry Cams (320-395-2377) charges about $125 to regrind to .240 (less for standard ~$100?) and about $25 to reface the lifters.
