You can determine the year from the casting codes. All the larger castings have a date code on them. It will be for example 6-22-R. The R stands for 1948. Sometimes the year number is used instead of the letter. The letters start at A for 1931 and go to T in 1950. In 1951 both U and W were used and 1953 and 54 are Y and Z. This is not an exact method, as sometimes castings were stored up and used later and also they can be changed, but this should get you at least the approximate year.
