When doing a Rebuild, you clean the block and maybe have the head redone. I always make sure the head is square and have the shop plane it some just to make sure. When doing all of these things, the odds are so great the valves will not have the same clearness. Even just replacing the head gasket, it won�t happen. Also after a rebuild you want to run the engine and warm it up good. Then cool and retorque the head. Again when you do this, you change the valve clearness and have to recheck the valves. Not doing this can cause a big headache down the road. Burning valves and even cracking the head.
