Thanks for the feedback Jim. It seems so obvious now.

As I mentioned in my last message, when I received the tractor, it was leaking "fluid" from the T/A clutch cover. The fluid seemed to be an oil/water mix. Based on that, I guess I assumed that the clutch was a wet clutch (hence the oil) and that the leaky cover plate and sitting for 5-8 years allowed water into the compartment.
