just a thought for you to think about. cap or plug both hose connections, fill radiator completely full. cap and turn radiator over, leave at a slight angle and weld away. water will keep solder cool enough it won't melt. pressure cap will releive any expansion so radiator doesn't blow a seam. i can't see what you are working with but by your description this might work
