Thanks for your answer. All I knew before last night was that the tractor was smoking. I have had the tractor less than two weeks. I pulled an offset harrow with the tractor Monday - the same offset harrow that stops my 350 Farmall Diesel and 424 International dead in their tracks- and the 706, even w/ the worn out engine, pulled the harrow like a charm. This afternoon, my buddy took the numbers from the block, and is trying to determine exactly what we have. Someone recently had the head off, judging from the head and head gasket, and the head looks good. We are weighing our options for rebuild, now that we cannot install sleeves. We are hoping to get some new pistons, or, better yet, some new pistons that are .002 over standard. (Original - looking IH pop up pistons were in the engine.) The cylinder walls look fair, and to me, it would be cost prohibitive to take the block off to have it bored. I am not a full time farmer, and I cannot spend oodles of $ on the engine. Thanks for the help, and for the info.
