can't answer if it should or should not but none of my tractors have them probably did at one time but it sounds more like a clogged radiator system I had the same problem with my Oliver 77 till I flushed out the system and I wouldn't go the the parts store for what you need but I'd go for the food store vinegar works better then any thing else I have ever tryed I took my 77 all apart and spent $30 or more and it still got hot till I drained the system and put a vinegar/water mix 70% vinegar 30% water ran it for about an hour then let it cool and drained the system rinsed it out with water and now it never gets hot
