Still removing hydrlic pump

I have all the 90's and the leaver off. I also have the plates from the bottom of the H off there is a shaft that has 2 cotter pins in it toward the transmisson side of the tractor. once the pump is gone do I need to have this saft connected? and what is this shaft connected to?

P.S. Yes I need more than just a Service manual but personal experence is much better than an engineers words on paper.
