Some Cub questions?

I was looking at a Farmall Cub this weekend with a serial # in the 30,000's (the motor number is less than 100 more than the chassis number) which according to this site is 1948. The casting codes indicated the middle of May of year "R". What is year R? Also the bell housing had the flat with holes for a touch control unit but I didn't spot a place in the motor for the pump to mount and couldn't get the casting code off the bell housing (hidden). When did the touch control become an option and did some come with the modified bell housing and original motor during the changeover? Thanks in advance. SAm in NS
