yes many 1466 tractors form the southern states came from the factory without ta. or you can stright shaft a tractro that has ta. if you are going to go to super or pro stock they have a tolaly different gear set . you wont be using the factory gear's. what type of pulling are you going to be doing? hot farm, super farm, pro stock or super stock?. and yes the 1466 is like the 856 you are talking about 4 gears with high and low. how much hp are you thinking of?
