When you own a company you get to run it how you want. Even if they come up with dumb ideas. Most companys are glued to short term goals. I believe at the expence of long term stability. Even happens at the place I work. All my bonuses are tied to cutting cost. If you dont hit your goals they will find some one who will. Same for a CEO if he does not hit his goals they will find some one who will. Its the share holders that hold all the cards. They tend to over react to every hickup in a proffit and loss satatment. Nothing you can do about it. The share holders must be fed. A company will eat its young to feed the share holders. I accept this as a condition of employment. If I get sick enough of it. I will start my own company. Thats the rub for a company going public. 8 years ago our owner sold out to a corp and it has never been the same.
