I can top that! Our H D had one this spring that was over $12,000. 3 cylinder diesel engine, power steering, 54 inch deck, 3 point hitch, etc. As to the $4000, that is what it costs for a good mower. Go with the cheap ones and you'll be looking again in 3 or 4 years if you are doing any mowing to speak of. I do admit though that the JDs seem a bit over priced. You can go to Lowe's and get a Cub Cadet, but I think the prices are similar.

Tractor Traction - by Chris Pratt. Our first bout with traction problems came when cultivatin with our Massey-Harris Pony. Up till then, this tractor had been running a corn grinder and pulling a trailer. It had new unfilled rear tires and no wheel weights.
