Been there, done that, several times. Not 100% certain at this distance, but highly probable that the left axle is broken right where it splines into the bull gear. I also had one that ate the splines out of the bull gear, but I think that was a result of the axle breaking earlier, and being replaced without careful inspection.

Up till then, this tractor had been running a corn grinder and pulling a trailer. It had new unfilled rear tires and no wheel weights.
