Hi, yes you can shatter a bearing race with a hammer but you better be wearing good protective clothing, including eye protection. This is not the preferred method, use a puller or heat and cold method.
I have personal experience with a piece of shattered bearing going thru a flannel shirt and an inch into my body and it is still there today after 20 years.

I learned my lesson, DO NOT SHATTER BEARINGS WITH HAMMER.
