Joe: An operator's manual should cover the adjustment of pto. Having said that you will have to be sure the manual you buy covers the pto you have. You could run into the same with service manual. The 300 started out with a planetary type pto and by late 460 and 560 it had changed to clutch type. Lately here on forums we have learned there was an earlier and different clutch type. I'm not sure I am convinced on this one yet. To me the clutch types all look the same. I have seen 350's both ways. I farmed with a 300 planetary and 560 clutch type. The difference is planetary looks about 1 foot square from back, whereas clutch type is smaller and rounded with pto shaft recessed. If you send me an e mail I do have a photo of clutch type, or send a photo of yours.

It is somewhat fuzzy as to just when IH changed these. All 300 have planetary, I have seen 350, 340 and 460 both ways. It is same with 400, 450 and 560. Looks as though there may have been a time frame where you could get either/ or.

Last niht I dreamed about the day that I plowed the field of about 10 acres over on what Jimmy and Dandy called the Ledbetter field. I was driving the 1948 8N Ford tractor that Jimmy bought in 48 new This was prebably in about 1951 and maybe even befor the house was built. This would have made me to be about16 years old and I drove the tractor for nothing and would have paid to drive it if I had had any money which I didn't, but neit ... [Read Article]
