Thanks, y'all.
It has been about six weeks since I washed the tractor, it hadn't had another chance to get wet, and it gets regular (at least weekly) use. Unless it happens again I'll call it a 'one of' and try not to think about it. And it is one more reason to go ahead and split the old boy. He needs a ring gear, anyway.
