I just looked at my 40 H today but forgot to post earlier-I hope you get this. My H has a shaft through the front bolster that is always in place. There is some sort of u-joint under the radiator so the shaft can make a slight bend to mate up with the crankshaft pulley. I'm sorry, I couldn't get a good look at the joint, I've got a broken ankle and can't get around real good right now!! Anyhow, the front of the shaft sticks out of the bolster about 3 inches and has a rollpin in the end of it. I don't have the crank handle, but I assume the handle fits over the shaft and engages with the roll pin. You would have to push in (toward grill) for the shaft to engage slots in crank pulley. Hope this makes sense, if not I can email a picture.
