Carl, I am by know means an expert, I often turn to this forum for help my self, but last summer I had a similar problem with an M which turned out to be a fuel problem. Under load -which was brush hoaging in my case- it would breck up and lose power but not completely die, even pulling the choke would not help which made me think it was electrical. During a particularly bad episode of the "tractor acting up", I stopped it and pulled the drain plug on the carburetor and there was barely a trickle of gas. (I did this once before and had good flow). I removed the cediment bulb assembley and blew the hole out with an air hose and the flow was restored. I assumed something was floating around and just got into the drain hole. Its not always easy to look into the gas tank from above for inspection. (I always let the tractor cool down before messing with gasoline not to insult you) Let us know if you get it running better.
