The thermosyphon system on the C and other early tractors wotrks on the principal of hot water rising. My Cub is the same, and I stucka thermometer in the top of the radiator once to see just how hot it got.Ran about 200 degrees whether working or loafing. The temp guage is conencted to the outlet from the radiator, and willnever get warm unless you let the water get low asnd it doesn't circulate, or the rad. is plugged. Dad had an early C, and we worked it hard at time, and it never overheated, except once when I forgot to check water level and it was low. It won't circulate if water level is low, so watch that. Otherwise it works fine. One other thing, if you change coolant and put in anti-freeze, mix it before adding to tractor. If you just dump in anti-freze, then water, it willnot citrculate, since the anti-freeze is heavier than the water.
