H PTO Drive Removal

I was bushhogging with an H without a shear pin, hit a rock and lost 1- 4th gears. I removed the tranny cover plate and the top 2 set of gears and at least 1 gear on the lowest shaft is stripped.

My question is how do I remove that lowest shaft? I found the retainer ring on the back end of the shaft where the actulal PTO shaft mates, but on the front of that shaft is a bearing with three bolts. I remove the bolts, but nothing moves. The front of the shaft has a large slot where a short coupling can be removed. Do I try and drive that entire lower shaft forward (toward the front of the engine)?

I read in an IT manual to "remove the nut" on the front of the shaft, but the only "nut" I have found up there is the one working on it.
