Matt: if you have not already done so, get an IT Shop Manual for your model. This manual covers the 460, 560, 660, 606, and 2606 models. The manual has a very well written and clear description on how to perform these adjustments. It is almost essential that your 560's tachometer is working for low and high idle adjustments. Don't know about the backfiring problem you asked about.
