take the A and F terminal wires off the generator. Ground the F terminal to the tractor frame. Start tractor and measure the voltage across the A and F terminals. with no regulator you will get about 12 volts on a 6 v gen and 20 volts on a 12 v system. This test does not include the voltage regulator.
