Vapor lock occurs when heat vaporizes fuel in a portion of the fuel system (fuel lines, fuel pump, carburetor) slowing or stopping the flow of fuel into the intake manifold. This can happen when a heat shield is missing, engine overheats or possibly, an exhaust manifold cracks and blows hot gases on a part of the fuel system. Vapor lock will go away when the fuel system cools down.
