Charlie has the answer. Put a new manifold to head gasket on and you won't believe the difference. Just to make sure of your gas flow, pull the choke out while running ,if the engine starts to blow alittle black smoke you know you have fuel.
And yes , make sure that carb is really clean. Use some tag wire to run thru all the holes and ports especially the one at the bottom that sends the gas to the discharge nozzle.
