You do not have to remove the top cover just knock the pin out of the shift lever. After it is removed look down and move the shift rail intil it lines up with the other two. There will be one that does not line up with the other two Your end of the shift lever mite be worn and this can let it get out of place. You mite have to push clutch in to relieve the pressure so you can move it. When you look down after removing the shift lever it will be plain to see what happened. The pin you drove out mite be worn enough to cause the problem. Not hard to do. This happens to all I-H sooner or later. You are not the lone wolf to have this happen.
