Tom, I have an "M" engine also and some other hit & miss engines, but haven't had time to mess with it. It is a lot easier to turn these engines over if you hold the exhaust valve open until you get the flywheels spinning. The extra speed helps to pull the air/fuel mixture in. The hit & mis engines are touchy for gas mixtue. Make sure that the plug wire is good. You can get new plugs at a lot of places that cater to the gas engine crowd. Most old iron shows have engine shows and plenty of people willing to help. There are 2 or 3 magazines for gas engines. I believe one is called "Gas Engine".
