Joe,
It took me a week or so, soaking in Liquid Wrench.
When I got it apart, I found the shaft had worn out, and someone had used thin brass strips to build it back up. It was seized pretty good, so you have to show patience. I also applied a bit of pressure each day before re-soaking.
